Director Cardiac Catheter Labs; Head of Coronary Disease Research Centre

Dr Redwood qualified from St. George's Hospital Medical School , University of London . He trained in General Cardiology at The Royal London Hospital, Royal Free Hospital and St. George's Hospital , London . He received training in Percutaneous Coronary Intervention at The Washington Hospital Center, Washington, DC and at Guy's and St. Thomas', London. He obtained Fellowship of the American College of Cardiology in 2001 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 2003.

Simon is Senior Lecturer/ Consultant Interventional Cardiologist and Director of the Catheter Labs at St Thomas ' Hospital. He is also Lead Clinician for Research and Development within the Directorate and a Council Member of the British Cardiovascular Interventional Society. He is a member of the Interventional Procedures Advisory Committee for NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) and an International Editorial Board Member for the journal Heart .

He is trained in all aspects of adult interventional cardiology including intravascular ultrasound, physiological lesion assessment using pressure-sensor tipped wires, stent implantation, rotational atherectomy and laser angioplasty including the laser wire for chronic total occlusions.

His MD thesis was on the subject of the patho-physiology of myocardial ischaemia and he currently has a particular interest in interventional cardiology based research including risk analysis and prediction of events post PCI, evaluation of coronary stents and coronary artery patho-physiology.
